Erasmus+ Mobility in Serres, Greece
“A Holistic Approach to the Digital World”
2025-1-FR01-KA210-SCH-000359401
Our Erasmus+ mobility in Serres, Greece, hosted by Aristotelio School, was a week filled with learning, collaboration, cultural exchange, and unforgettable memories. Within the framework of the project “A Holistic Approach to the Digital World,” students and teachers from Greece, France, Romania, and Turkey came together to explore how digital education, innovation, and intercultural cooperation can shape the future.
A Warm Welcome and a Strong Start
The mobility began with a warm welcome at Aristotelio School. Participants were introduced to the school community, attended presentations about the partner schools and their towns, and shared digital teaching practices. From the very first day, the atmosphere was open, friendly, and collaborative.
A creative logo contest set the tone for the week, encouraging international teams to work together and express the project’s vision through design and teamwork.
Innovation in Action: Robotics and AI
Day two focused on hands-on learning and innovation. Students participated in a LEGO robotics workshop using Scratch, working in mixed international teams to design, program, and test their own robotic creations. Through problem-solving activities, they strengthened their coding skills, creativity, and teamwork.
The day also included a lecture on Artificial Intelligence in Education, highlighting both the opportunities and the ethical challenges of AI in modern classrooms. A special emphasis was placed on empowering girls in STEM, in connection with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February), an initiative supported by UNESCO and the United Nations to promote equal participation in scientific fields. Students reflected on inclusion, equality, and the importance of encouraging young women to pursue careers in science and technology.
Environmental Awareness at Lake Kerkini
One of the highlights of the mobility was the educational visit to Lake Kerkini, one of Greece’s most important wetlands and a protected Ramsar site within the Natura 2000 network.
During a guided boat trip, participants observed impressive bird species such as the Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus), the Great White Pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus), as well as Great Cormorants, Pygmy Cormorants, herons, and other waterbirds that thrive in this unique ecosystem.
Through expert guidance, students learned about:
-
Wetland ecosystems and biodiversity
-
Migratory bird routes
-
Environmental sustainability
-
The balance between human activity and nature conservation
The visit connected classroom knowledge with real-life environmental awareness, reinforcing the importance of responsible citizenship.
STEM Challenge and Project Coordination
Day four brought excitement with a dynamic STEM Treasure Hunt, where students worked in international teams to solve science- and technology-based challenges. The activity combined critical thinking, collaboration, and digital skills in an engaging and playful way.
At the same time, the project coordinators held a meeting to evaluate progress, discuss outcomes, and plan the next steps of the Erasmus+ partnership. Reflection, organization, and cooperation ensured the project’s continued success.
Living the Erasmus Experience
Beyond the workshops and activities, visiting students were hosted by students of Aristotelio School and their families. This allowed them to experience daily life in Serres, explore the town, and immerse themselves in Greek culture.
Living together created bonds that went far beyond the classroom. Students practiced languages, shared traditions, discovered similarities, and built genuine friendships. They realized that although we may speak different languages or come from different backgrounds, we share the same dreams, values, and hopes for the future.
Reflection and Celebration
The mobility concluded with a Reflection and Celebration Day, including a certificate ceremony. Students and teachers shared how the week had changed their perspectives — academically, socially, and personally.
They spoke about gaining confidence, improving digital and collaborative skills, stepping outside their comfort zones, and understanding the importance of intercultural dialogue. The ceremony was filled with smiles, gratitude, and emotion — not an ending, but the beginning of lasting connections.
As expressed during our final reflections, this Erasmus+ mobility reminded us that education is not only about knowledge — it is about empathy, cooperation, and peace. We may be different on the outside, but at heart we are the same.
A Week to Remember
From robotics and AI to environmental exploration and intercultural friendship, this mobility in Serres truly embodied the spirit of Erasmus+.
It was a week of innovation, inclusion, sustainability, and unity — a powerful reminder that when young people learn together, they build bridges that cross borders.
And as we said goodbye, we knew one thing for certain:
This was not the end — it was simply see you again.
