  Preparing the Next Generation: Why Disaster Prevention Belongs in the Classroom Natural disasters rarely announce themselves in advance. Earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and other emergencies can strike within seconds, and in those moments, knowing how to react calmly and correctly can be the difference between safety and tragedy. This is why teaching disaster prevention and first aid skills in schools has become an essential part of modern education — not an optional extra, but a core life skill alongside reading, writing, and mathematics. Why Schools Are the Right Place to Start Children and teenagers spend a significant part of their day at school, often in large buildings shared with hundreds of others. Teaching them how to recognize risks, respond to emergencies, and support one another builds habits that last a lifetime.   Building a Safer, More Caring School Community This school year has been full of meaningful activities as our students and teachers continue working together on our Erasmus+ project, focused on disaster prevention, first aid awareness, and community solidarity. Celebrating Erasmus Days We kicked things off by joining the international celebration of Erasmus Days, bringing students together to reflect on what it means to be part of a European learning community and to share the values of cooperation, openness, and mutual support that lie at the heart of the project. A Day Dedicated to Natural Disaster Prevention Our school also hosted a Natural Disaster Prevention Day, where students explored how communities can better prepare for and respond to natural hazards.   ALERTED Project – Second Transnational Activity Recap! From 21-24 April 2026, Cluj-Napoca, Romania welcomed students and teachers from Romania, Belgium, Greece, and Türkiye for four unforgettable days of learning, cooperation, and cultural exchange! Under the theme "Hydroharmony: Balancing Water Sustainability in Flood and Drought Management through STEM", participants dove into: Climate change & disaster awareness Flood and drought management Flood Alert App & VR simulations Emergency response and first-aid training (with IGSU Cluj professionals!) Sustainable water use & water footprint of food Scientific water analysis experiments Multinational teamwork & intercultural learning Students also enjoyed a study visit to the stunning Turda Salt Mine, a multicultural dinner, and plenty of cultural exchange around the city.   EcoVogue Fashion Club Completes Five-Month STEAM Programme Ten students transform recycled jeans and T-shirts into science — and change how they think about everything they wear Ten female students from Years 9 to 11 have completed a five-month after-school programme that used fashion to teach science, mathematics, engineering, technology, and art in a way that has — by every measure available — worked. The EcoVogue Fashion Club ran from January to May 2026 as part of the European Erasmus+ EcoVogue project, a collaboration between six partner schools across Europe. Aristotelio Ekpedeftirio Serron is the Greek partner, and the Fashion Club was the school's contribution to the A.4 Student Training component of the project. The results, measured through pre- and post-programme surveys, tell a clear story. Before the programme began, the average student rated her interest in STEAM subjects at 1.9 out of 5.   D.G.TOUR YouTube Channel Now Available The D.G.TOUR YouTube channel has been launched and now hosts the video recordings of the Online Transnational Staff Training Event held in February 2026. The recordings provide open access to the training sessions delivered by project partners on accessible tourism, inclusive communication, gamification methodologies, and digital and AI-based tools for education.   Fashioning a Sustainable Tomorrow: STE(A)Ming Against Climate 2024-1-ES01-KA220-SCH-000248664 LTT – Learning, Teaching, and Training Activity Host: ARISTOTELIO EKPEDEFTIRIO SERRON Dates: 23–27 March 2026 As part of our ongoing Erasmus+ project, our partnership recently completed a Learning, Teaching and Training (LTT) activity hosted in Serres, Greece. This mobility brought together educators and project partners to advance the core objectives of the project — developing innovative STEAM teaching methodologies using fast fashion as a pedagogical tool, and designing targeted strategies to strengthen girls' soft skills and engagement in STEAM fields.
